Introduction…

Ever since I was using my father’s camera as a little boy, I’ve been trying to capture light. I started making optics, designing and building telescopes. I learned by trial and error to work with long focal lengths, to deal with air turbulence, to follow moving objects, and to distort images by using cylindrical lenses, entirely without using Photoshop tricks.

This photo site provides an overview of recent and older work.

In three categories I take you to surreal, somewhat mystical images, photos made with long focal lengths and astronomical objects. Have fun.

Distorted images…

A simple cylindrical lens, placed in front of a smart phone, gave interesting and surprising effects, resulting in a series of, mainly, landscapes where all horizontal and vertical lines are either sharp or blurred.

One of the effects of working with (extremely) long focus optics is that perspective almost or completely disappears. Everything seems to be squeezed together. A side effect of long focus optics, and often a handicap, is the sensitivity to air turbulence. Images become blurred. But this is not necessarily a bad thing, it can contribute to the ambiance of an image.
